Nick Voase

Director, East Yorkshire Hemp

Nick Voase, Advisory Board member at Precision Plants and Director of East Yorkshire Hemp

About Nick

One of the UK's most experienced commercial hemp growers, Nick has cultivated and processed industrial hemp since 2002 — making him one of the longest-established hemp operators in the country. A third-generation farmer, Nick runs East Yorkshire Hemp (K J Voase and Son) from the family farm in East Yorkshire, growing up to 500 acres of hemp annually and processing all crops on-farm. His hands-on experience spans the entire hemp value chain, from seed sourcing and cultivation through to processing, product development, and market supply.

Role at Precision Plants

Nick advises on commercial hemp production, on-farm processing, and practical variety performance. With over two decades of growing experience across hundreds of acres, he provides invaluable insight into what farmers actually need from new hemp genetics — from field performance and harvest logistics to downstream processing characteristics. His expertise in designing and building custom hemp machinery ensures Precision Plants' varieties are developed with real-world processing requirements in mind.

Farming Heritage

The Voase family has farmed at Baswick Steer in East Yorkshire since 1943, when Nick's grandfather Ken took on the run-down farmland and spent decades improving it. Ken expanded from the original holding to 600 acres by 1971 and planted hundreds of trees long before environmental stewardship became mainstream — a six-acre woodland is now marked as "Ken's Wood" on Ordnance Survey maps. Today, three generations later, continual improvement remains the family's guiding principle, now channelled into pioneering sustainable hemp production and processing.
